Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (PDP), or Part D, are designed to lower prescription costs and provide stability against higher costing prescriptions. Prescription plans vary state by state and enrollment is typically year to year. There is a varying range of monthly premiums and it’s important to check your estimated costs every single year in the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15th to December 7th). We use a quoting tool that inputs your prescriptions, dosages, quantities filled, and where you fill them - calculating the annual costs for your prescriptions.
If you chose to go without prescription coverage after your Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) starts, and then you start a prescription plan later, you will be penalized for each month you went without coverage and that penalty will be added to each monthly premium while you have prescription drug coverage.
If your income is higher, you may have an additional amount added to your prescription drug premium, or if your income is lower, you may qualify for additional help with your premiums and copays.
